A YOUNG Albany soccer team recently celebrated a triumphant end to a glorious season.
Rovers Gold took out the Albany Soccer Association’s Under 19s Grand Final by beating compatriots, Rovers Green 4-0 in a thrilling game.
Gold, who had only lost one game all season, extended its celebrations after Zeek Timmo, in his first season playing for the team, won the Association’s Fairest and Best Player award, and rising star Bodie Davies was runner-up.
Rovers Gold coach Steve Pinner said the achievements were indicative of a team packed with outstanding talent.
“The reason why Gold have been so successful is there is an abundance of talent right across the board,” Pinner said.
“It’s been a very tough season and it was great to see two Rovers’ teams come through to the final for the first time,” Pinner said.
With more than 1200 registered players, soccer remains the biggest junior sport in Albany and is rapidly producing a number of exceptional young players.
Pinner, who also trains Rovers Gold Under 14s and Under 16s Country Week squad, recognises this hotbed of talent and is keen to expand his soccer coaching commitments further.
“We’ve already got quite a few players who’ve played in State competitions, but I’d like to get an Under 21s team together for Country Week next year,” he said.
