ALBANY Boardriders Club’s surfing season has been given a kickstart with a grant for brand new equipment.
The club recently received $1200 from the Telstra Foundation through its Kids Fund, to help buy a trailer to transport equipment for people with disabilities.
The donation is one of 209 grants the fund has awarded to not-for-profit organisations around Australia for sporting, educational and recreational equipment.
Through Telstra’s Kids Fund, employees can nominate a not-for-profit organisation which a young relation is involved with.
The fund then provides $1200 on the employee’s behalf to contribute to each project.
Telstra Foundation chairman, Herb Elliott AC MBE was pleased with the response by Telstra staff, who applied for grants through the program to help organisations in their community.
“Albany Boardriders Club will benefit from this latest round of grants, which total more than $250,000 and takes the Foundation’s giving to almost $5 million through the Kids Fund,” Mr Elliott said.
Telstra area general manager Ray Philp said the fund helped develop strong communities at a grassroots level by providing opportunities for young people to grow and prosper.
“I am thrilled that Telstra’s Kids Fund is helping Albany Boardriders Club,” he said.
“The money can help make a significant difference to the community in which children and young people live and participate in.”
