IDEAL weather greeted shooters for the Mutton Bird Range revolver shoot on Sunday, August 17.
A good field, including several visitors, showed up for the day.
However, in the absence of reigning top guns Bill Wellington, George Franey and Brian Bolton, there were no qualifiers for the ‘500’ club.
This year’s resident top woman shooter, Ann Smillie, led the field in rimfire and overall on 495.9, while Mick Scanlan led centrefire with 485.9.
Winners of the six open field events were different for each shoot. Ron Thomas led off at 50m with 92.1, then junior Cody Marklew led 25m with 94.2.
The 15m-timed event went to Andrew Adams with 96.1 and the rapid-fire to Lynd Polain with 87.1.
After moving up to 10m for multi-target, Smillie led on 90.3, while the final 10m rapid went to Warren Baldock with 95.3
Stuart James was closest to his nomination of 430.
At a committee meeting it was decided to hold a range working bee to construct extra stop butts and conduct general maintenance this Saturday, August 30.
The shoot for the September trophy will be on Sunday, September 7.
