ALBANY was well represented at the recent State and Country Table Tennis Championships in Perth.
The first team of Nick Ng, Ricky Weight and Peter Muller were runners-up against Bunbury in the teams’ competition.
The second team of Garry Adams, Jeff Ng and Pauline Gadd finished fourth.
In the round-robin games, the first team lost to Bunbury 6-3, but convincingly beat Mandurah 6-1 and Busselton 6-2.
In the final to decide gold medals, they again faced their nemesis Bunbury and were soundly beaten 6-1.
Albany’s second team defeated Geraldton 6-2, but lost to Bunbury 6-0 and Busselton 6-3.
In the play-off for bronze medals the gallant team were closely beaten 6-5 by Busselton.
In the individual events, the father and son team of Nick and Jeff Ng won the Special C-grade State Men’s doubles, defeating Geraldton’s Greg Evans and Sam Crouch 11-4, 11-8, 12-10.
Ng senior also reached the C-grade semi-final singles, while Pauline Gadd played in the Country Ladies singles semi-final.
Gadd put in a great effort but eventually lost 11-7, 11-7 to Mandurah’s Pat Stewart.
