Netball in final throes

28/08/2008 11:40:00 AM
SADLY, the netball season is drawing to a close.

It’s already been a great season, but on Saturday, specators witnessed some of the competition’s best action.

In the Albany Surf & Skate A3 division, Bullets4 came up against Royal Saints4 in an exceptionally close game.

Both teams displayed extremely strong defence and accurate shooting.

Bullets’ centre, Gabby Loynd, played a great game, moving the ball down the court to goal shooter Carly Warren who converted very well.

Royals’ Anne Marie Murphy had a strong game in goal defence position.

The game was only decided in the last quarter, with Bullets winning 39-35.

In the Bunnings A1 division, Jets played Jokers1.

Both teams came on court with great intensity and determination.

It was Jets’ aim to move to second position on the ladder, while Jokers were playing their last game of the season.

The first half saw goal-for-goal action.

Jets’ wing attacker Kate Minniter moved brilliantly and impressedspectators with great athleticism around the attacking circle.

Jokers’ goal defence Jeni Smith and goalkeeper Karina Wolfe played tight for Jokers, making Jets’ shooters work hard.

Jokers’ Ellen Tasker was playing her first game in the attacking circle this year and shot accurately.

At the half-time break, Jets made positional changes which worked extremely well.

The team played with great consistentcy and deservably won the game 55-35.

A nomination list for the Members 2009 team is available at the office.

There is also a list up for coaches, umpires and team managers.

The members’ is a brilliant weekend of netball, so please nominate and give it a go.

14/11/2008 | There isn't any doubt any more about whether Deputy PM, Julia Gillard, has the killer instinct. The problem tends more to be how to drag her off the victim's body.
