ALBANY Harness Club is facing many new changes as it prepares for its new season.
The club met last week to consider a number of constitutional changes, bringing it into line with basic requirements and future demands.
The club’s facilities at Harold Reid Paceway on Lancaster Road will also be refurbished and pre-season events organised to attract more people to the races.
The special meeting on Tuesday was to decide a revision of the club’s constitution on three points: change the financial year to align it with the governing body, Racing and Wagering WA; bring the AGM forward to August each year; and change membership rules so that people do not need to wait two years to be voted onto the committee.
Albany Harness Racing Club secretary/treasurer Shelby Kent said that in coming months the club will be looking at revamping the pavillion and the restaurant.
“The restaurant will change into a members-only sports bar, with wide screen TV, private tote and bar facilities and a very comfy seating arrangement with fantastic views of the track,” she said.
“The pavilion’s bar area will be extended to enable patrons a greater area with more room and comfort.”
The club is also revamping its catering facilities.
Kent said the club had planned a number of events pre-season to get people interested in the trots.
A major event in October will be followed by others planned for November and December.
