ALBANY Bowling Club commenced the 2008/09 season on Saturday with a drawn mixed triples competition sponsored by club patrons Karl Maesalu and Billie Scott.
Maesalu rolled the first bowl of the season using the ‘Golden Bowl’ from the centenary celebrations.
This was followed by a Spider competition, in which players simultaneously bowled one bowl from different areas of the bank.
Lila Armstrong got nearest the spider and won the game.
Fourteen teams, comprising 42 players, competed in the main competition which was won by the combination of Alan Devine, Isobel Mason and Andy Vanni.
Ray’s Sports Power Day which was on Sunday, attracted the biggest entry of teams for several years.
Unfortunately, the 24 teams never got to play, as the competition was abandoned after heavy rain flooded the greens.
