LARK Hill trainer Adam Durrant made the most of a rare trip south by snatching both feature races on Albany Cup Day on Sunday.
Durrant made it two from two when Inarticulate won the $40,000 Fitzpatrick Plate Sprint and Great Destiny was victorious in the $65,000 XXXX Gold Albany Cup.
Jockey Alan Kennedy had Great Destiny settled perfectly behind the early speedsters Impact Rating and Alsaah Warrior.
Great Destiny put paid to his opposition at the turn, finishing strongly to beat Steve Wolfe’s Goldtown and Peter Western’s Sir Clase.
Inarticulate came from further back to win the secondary feature race.
However, rider Peter Hall got the favourite clear in the straight and won easily over Weekly Express and Carbineer.
Local trainer Mark Nelson had another Cup Day win with the talented Height of Heights.
The five-year-old Touch of Vanity mare made it successive wins with victory in the Sky Channel Provincial Series Heat over 1,400m.
Alan McNamara Jnr opened the account for local trainers when his impressive-looking Evil Force was a short-priced winner of the Bundaberg Rum Maiden (1,200m).
Evil Force held off John Askevold’s Jeneviv and Darryl Ward’s Em Dante.
However, Askevold was soon in the winner’s circle when Chaddie saluted in the GWN Maiden (1,600m) by beating the Wolfe stablemates Cotton Eyed Joe and Lets Fly.
Ray Malpass won the Eat More Fruit&Veg Handicap with Vodka Lime.
Gerry Hughes’s Movie World produced a big finish to win the Primaries of WA Handicap (1,800m).
She came from ninth at the turn to beat Western’s Megablitz and Paul Hunter’s Esroh.
Wolfe’s day improved when Commandeer was an emphatic winner of the Go For 2&5 Handicap (1,400m) at good odds.
The Enforcer gelding was too strong for Max Hockey’s All Spots and Brendan Corver’s Kimberleys.
Ken Nightingale’s Ventoux registered his second successive win after an impressive run in the Rainbow Coast Insurance Brokers Handicap (1,100m).
The Akhenaton filly was too good for John Cane’s Signata and Angela Smith’s Trimconnection.
Albany’s next race meeting is on Anzac Day, Saturday, April 25.
