TWENTY-two competitors started in perfect conditions at Sunday’s Try a Tri event held at ALAC.

As an event promoted to bringing new participants to the sport, it certainly did not disappoint with many new faces tackling the course for the very first time.

The event consisted of a 200 metre swim, 5km cycle and 2km run.

Sully Stoner took the early lead in the swim but had his advantage slowly eroded in the cycle leg to only a few seconds heading into the run.

Marcelle Cannon, returning to triathlons after a short break, chased down Stoner and carried on to win by a comfortable minute.

After stepping out of the pool mid-field, Tom Wenbourne made up time on the bike and run legs, moving up several places, but wasn’t quite able to catch Stoner for second place.

In the TRYstars, 15 under 12s competed in the event consisting of a 50 metre swim, 1km cycle and 400 metre run.
