THE Speedway Sedans Australia Australian Modified Production Championship will be held at Atwell Park Speedway in Albany over the Easter weekend.
With the nominations released a few weeks ago, there will be a small but strong field.
Ten interstate drivers will make the long trip to the Western Australian venue, including Todd Doyle and Andrew Blackwell who were the first two across the line in last year’s title.
The official result of that event has still not been finalised, but will only build more interest in the 2009 event as it draws closer.
Irrespective of who is Australia #1, both have tasted victory before with Doyle having successfully won four Queensland titles, while Blackwell has won two Victorian Modfied Production Titles.
Former National Champion Greg Worling and Bryan Galley are also likely to figure prominently, with Galley of Victoria narrowly missing out on winning his third South Australian Title recently.
Former Victorian Champion Trevor Mills is also in the interstate line-up, along with Justin Drew, Greg Atkins, Phil Pottage, Mark Carlin and South Australian Chris Hayden.
Western Australian Champion Allan Mortimer, along with former State Champions John Purser and Brendan Selleck, are also in the field.
Purser has been in great form this season, and is currently second in the Metabo Modified Production Series, led by Broome’s Mick Johnson.
Jason Pearce, Aydan Trewern, Steve Beres and Peter Fraser are also likely to figure prominently.
The traditional boat cruise for competitors, sponsors and crews will leave the Albany port next Thursday night, with scrutineering and practice on Good Friday.
Heat races will be held on Saturday night, with the finals scheduled for Sunday night.
The prestigious Bill Gibbings Memorial for Super Sedans will also be on the program, along with Street Stock on Saturday night, while NOS Sprints will be the support on Sunday evening.
Full coverage will be provided, with a live internet broadcast also available.
