THE Albany Boating and Offshore Fishing Club’s first major contest in eight years was a spectacular success on the weekend.
The Southern Ocean Spectacular attracted 27 boats on Sunday.
Anglers tested their skills in tricky conditions to win big prizes in the “inside” and “outside” divisions.
In a busy weekend on local waters, there were also eight boats contesting the Saturday-Sunday catch-and-release bream fishing contest.
Sunday’s competitors set off at 6.30am and returned with their catches at 3pm for the weigh-in.
ABOFC president Greg Holly thanked the many sponsors who contributed to ensure the success of the rejuvenated event.
He also thanked the DPI and Fisheries WA for their support.
The “outside” winners included: Pink snapper: Nigel Ryde (7.08kg) 1, Jason McLean (5.64kg) 2. Breaksea cod: George Panelli (2.5kg) 1, Jason McLean (2.18kg) 2. Red snapper: Simon Stone (3.16kg) 1, Jason McLean (2.42kg) 2. Queen snapper: Nigel Ryde (6.96kg) 1, Simon Stone (6.52kg) 2. Dhufish: Jason McLean (11.14kg) 1, David Scott (6.84kg) 2.
