TWO Albany shooters were part of the Western Australian team which finished third at the national championships on October 18.
The four-man team consisted of John Edwards and David Taylor from Albany’s Sporting Shooters Association, Owen Ismail from Perth, and Tasmanian Bob Kerr who joined the team for the day.
The nationals were held in Casino, NSW, and the team participated in various events using armed-forces issue rifles and pistols.
The national finals were over three days and the team returned bronze medal winners.
“It was good fun,” Taylor said. “There were only about 10 points that separated everyone.
“The event was very close and fairly even in regards to skill.”
Each person qualified for the nationals through points gained at the Coolilup Postal Shoots in Bunbury and other yearly state events.
In his spare time, Taylor is an artist and musician.
He became involved in shooting at the age of 12.
Edwards on the other hand works in forestry and has been practising for the event over the past 34 years.
Two other Albany shooters, Daryl McGlade and David Hanna, were also recently awarded a gold and silver medal respectively through points gained at various Australia-wide events.
