LOCAL riders were successful in the Equestrian Federation of Australia Eventing Championship Series held recently in Capel.
Chanelle Condren and her thoroughbred gelding, Flaming Nijinsky, have competed in the WA Championship Series for about six years.
In her first official event for over 18 months and competing as a senior rider, Condren was successful, winning from more than 20 riders.
The win follows excellent results over the past six years, including runner-up.
To be successful is a real feat as the gruelling 12 rounds winds it way all over the State and includes several international-level events.
Leading after the dressage phase at Capel, Condren rode with confidence over the cross-country course.
Flaming Nijinsky is steadily improving his show jumping with assistance from Colin Pither, and Condren rode a great round.
Also successful at Capel was Gabby Pither and Skywalker.
Entered in a large class of 30 riders, she claimed a well deserved second in the Junior Preliminary grade and won the high school competition.
Olympic silver medallist Sonja Johnson opened her 2009 campaign with some of her new horses and is already looking very strong.
There were over 230 riders competing in the event.
Riders competing in the higher grades now travel to the privately-owned Brookleigh Equestrian Estate in the Swan Valley, on April 19 to compete in a restricted grade event on the calendar - the Swan River Horse Trials.
