THE Great Southern Netball Region walked away Division One winners of the Western Power Academy Cup in Joondalup on October 3 and 4.
This is the first time the Great Southern has won the competition after 10 years of participation, and only the third country region to do so.
The event was the pinnacle of the state’s netball program with 11 regions represented by two teams of their most talented athletes aged 17 years and under.
The Great Southern team competed in 10 games with Division One winning eight, losing one and drawing one, ending the competition with 17 points and winning the overall Division One section.
The Division Two team competed in the same event, finishing in sixth place, with outstanding performances from some of the region’s up-and-coming athletes.
Adding to this achievement was Great Southern coach Anne Parsons being recognised by Netball WA as the 2009 Western Power Academy Cup Division One All-Star Coach.
The Great Southern Netball Region is made up of six regional associations: Albany, Denmark, Katanning, Kojonup, Narrogin and Ongerup.
