MANYPEAKS will be looking to open their account this weekend when they take on Collingwood Park in Albany Cricket Association’s Round 3.
Ryan Kinnear’s men were downed in a low-scoring season-opener against Railways then lost narrowly last weekend against Royals.
But there were good signs for the Peaks, as they chased Royals’ 179.
Openers Chad Jefferis and Kinnear got their side away to a steady start on a ground where runs were hard to come by.
Turf West offered a good batting wicket but the slow outfield kept runs at a premium.
Manypeaks were a genuine chance of hauling in the total even when Jefferis (17), Don Monley (42) and Kinnear (24) had been removed.
Peaks newcomer Brad Davidson was the mainstay in the finals overs, but tight spells from Gavin Morgan, Dylan Morgan and fellow junior Bronson Leo got the Blues over the line by six runs.
Earlier, new skipper Andrew Hagnhofer (51), Morgan Jnr (45) and Dion Hoy (31) helped Royals to their respectable total.
Peaks will be looking to build on the positives from their opening games.
But they face a Collingwood Park side which has reversed its usual trend of starting slowly.
The reigning premiers have won their opening two matches and are buoyed by the clean hitting of Chad Hitchcock (31), Craig Sims (31) and Ben Wrobel (35) in Saturday’s win over Railways.
The Tigers would have fancied their chances in the chase for 163, but Daryl Robinson, Craig Doncon and Hayden Burling combined to wreck their top order.
Only Julian Crudelli offered any resistance, compiling 69 after earlier snaring two wickets.
Railways were eventually dismissed for 122.
This weekend they face a rampant North County who will be brimming with confidence after smashing Denmark last weekend.
County skipper Craig Tonkin relished a second week on hard-wickets, bludgeoning 126 against the hapless Denmark attack.
Denmark paceman Ben Dines made inroads on the North County middle order, taking three wickets, until Tonkin was joined by Graeme Weinert.
Weinert joined in the run feast, falling just shy of his century when he holed out for 97.
County finished with 300.
Denmark were never seriously in the hunt, although a handy partnership between Jeremy Newman (54) and Dines (23) was a highlight in their side’s total of 151.
Denmark will be looking to restrict Royals to a realistic total when they meet on Turf East on Saturday.
