MEMBERS of five Albany teams have joined netballers from around the State for the biggest event on WA’s netball calendar.
More than 11,000 netballers and supporters from across WA made the journey to Wanneroo Districts Netball Association last weekend for the annual Smarter than Smoking Association Carnival.
As the largest event of the year, more than 2,500 netball players from 212 teams throughout WA take to the courts to play 696 games, watched by 848 officials and more than 7,000 spectators.
The competition gives players the opportunity to perform against other associations in a challenging and fun environment with the chance to learn from and show support for other talented athletes.
“The Smarter than Smoking Association Carnival is an institution amongst netballers and a much anticipated event on the netball calendar,” Netball WA chief executive officer, Scott Henderson said.
“The event is only made possible due the team of dedicated volunteers who help run the event, our sponsor Healthway, promoting the Heart Foundation’s Smarter than Smoking message, and of the enthusiasm from all the players involved.”
