Netball hotting up

14/08/2008 9:04:00 AM
THE netball season really took off in the last round of fixtures on Saturday.

In an even match that could have gone either way, Bullets4 had a tremendous battle against Jokers6 in Friday night’s Albany Surf and Skate A3 game.

Jokers’ players Carly Annison played a brilliant game applying great defensive pressure, while Caitlin Bowen offered some great leads.

Bullets’ Gabby Loynd also played an excellent game. Jokers won the game 29-19.

In the Bunnings A1 division, Jokers1 played Kangas1 in a real nail-biter.

The first quarter was fast and furious with both teams attacking the court with immense desire and determination.

Scores were even into the second quarter, unitil Kangas’ capitalised on a few turnovers and took the lead.

In a brilliant third quarter, both teams fought for the ball with great endeavour to even the score. The last quarter was even with all 14 players giving 100 per cent. Jokers1 won 37-36.

On Saturday, Jokers7 came up against Narrikup4 in the Ironmonger Building Company A4 division.

Jokers’ Madison Williams played an exceptionally solid game in centre with great positioning in both attack and defence.

But with accurate shooting from Narrikup’s Katie Hastie and brilliant defence from Kate Harris and Hannah Orzel, was enough to give them the win, 26-18.

In the Albany Surf and Skate A3 division, Grammar1 met Narrikup3.

This was a great contest for the entire four quarters.

Initially Narrikup took the lead at the end of the first quarter but Grammar came back on court in the second with sheer determination.

Grammar’s Kathryn Slattery had a brilliant game, applying exceptional defensive pressure. The final score was 37-23 in Grammar’s favour.

The umpiring sessions are still being conducted every Saturday morning from 11am to 11.30am.

There are extremely valuable and informative and suitable for all players and parents.

All you need is a whistle, a water bottle and joggers.

The sessions are free, so give them a go, there are only three weeks remaining.

On Sunday, Albany’s representative teams took the long drive to Narrogin to compete in the Great Southern Regional Carnival.

Albany had a team in every division and they showed how talented our local players are.

In the U11 and U12 divisions our teams were runners-up.

In the U13 division Albany were just too strong and won convincingly.

Our U14 team played a division higher which meant we had two teams in the U15 division.

In an Albany versus Albany grand final the U14s came out winners. Well done to everyone for a great day.

Nomination lists for the 2009 members team will be posted on the noticeboard located near the office.

14/11/2008 | There isn't any doubt any more about whether Deputy PM, Julia Gillard, has the killer instinct. The problem tends more to be how to drag her off the victim's body.
