THE action is hotting up on ALAC’s netball courts as teams prepare themselves for the finals in the next couple of weeks.
Saturday’s round of games proved as exciting as ever, with some hardy souls even braving the wet windy conditions on the outside court.
One game in question was the highly competitive A3 clash between Jokers 6 and Grammar 1.
This close tussle saw Jokers’ Jorden Tester showing great skill and determination in her centre court position, while Grammar defender Laura Hallet made the opposition’s shooters work extra hard for every goal.
After scoring two goals in the last minute of the final quarter, Grammar were the eventual winners 31-29.
The D1 match between Cranbrook 2 and Narrikup 9 proved close in the first quarter with Cranbrook up by just a single goal at quarter time.
However, Narrikup scored well in the next two quarters and took the game by 10 goals.
The on-court contest between Narrikup’s goal defender Leah Nairn and Cranbrook’s goal attacker Sophie Beasley was wonderful to watch, as both girls are very skilled and fought hard for the ball all game.
In the D2 division, Bullets 8 came up against Jokers 11. A hard-fought first quarter saw Jokers fighting hard, pushing Bullets all the way.
But after a few position changes and some hard work, Bullets played strongly over the following three quarters and won the game comfortably 26-1.
The young Jokers team never gave up and are to be commended on their effort.
Bullets shooters’ Erin McAleese and Bonnie Currie had a great game, while Jokers’ goal attacker Maggie Berente and defender Isabella Baum both played well.
In the D4 division, Royals 13’s Rebecca, Meg and Issobel fought hard to keep the game alive, but the Royals 14 defence of Keana and Jazmin, combined with accurate shooting by Ally and Emily proved too effective and they took the game 9-3.
