A LARGE number of riders took part in the Albany Motorcycle Club’s Come and Try Day at the Roberts Road track on Sunday.
Despite the miserable weather conditions, 84 riders attended the day along with a large contingent of enthusiastic spectators.
This was great news for the club, which up until a few weeks ago had an uncertain future due to noise issues at the track.
Come and Try days are an opportunity for members of the public who own off-road bikes to get out onto a motocross track and spend the day riding without it costing them a small fortune.
All licences and insurances are covered by Motorcycling WA and riders only need to pay a small nomination fee to ride.
After the success of Sunday the club is considering holding another Come and Try Day towards the end of the motocross season.
AMC secretary Ricci Draper said judging by the number of people who showed up on Sunday, motocross could be become Albany’s fastest growing sport, for riders and spectators alike.
The club will have a couple of weeks break to attend an interclub event in Busselton and will hold its next club day on September 14.
