SOME of Albany’s top junior tennis players will be hitting Brisbane’s courts at the Rod Laver Junior Hard Court Tennis Championships this week.
Organised by Albany Tennis Academy coach David Kerr, this will be the academy’s second interstate trip this year after successful events in Victoria and NSW in January.
Albany players Ross Mengler, Jacob Crowe, Matt Thompson, Michael Galante, Declan Mountford and Michael Offerman will join Jason Demeza (Boddington) Bernard Richter (Kalgoorlie) and Callum Wedge and Louis Asser (Bunbury) on the seven-day tour.
Crowe is excited about his fifth interstate trip with the academy.
“I should get good results because I’ll be playing on a hard court, my favourite surface,” Crowe said.
The trip will be special for Thompson who broke his wrist in March and missed out playing in Bridgetown and Perth events.
“I’m hoping to play well and at least reach the semi-finals,” Thompson said.
Kerr said the Brisbane trip would provide a excellent opportunity for the youngsters to play against other top juniors.
“Perth tournaments are great, but we want our kids to go one step further and play a wider range of players,” Kerr said.
The team won an ITF event in Victoria.
