Healthier sporting environments

23 Jul, 2009 09:35 AM
SPORTS Medicine Australia WA Branch is offering local sporting clubs a sponsorship incentive to make their environments healthier.

Incorporated bodies competing in a recognised competition over the upcoming summer sporting season may apply for up to $2,500 to make their club safer, healthier, or for training purposes.

Funds can be used to purchase first aid and club safety equipment, sunscreen, Responsible Service of Alcohol training as well as training and coaching courses for volunteers and parents.

In return for sponsorship, clubs are required to introduce smoke-free outdoor areas and introduce strategies to address other health issues.

Clubs will also need to develop and introduce a healthy club policy addressing the issues of smoking, sun protection, alcohol and healthy food choices.

Guidelines and application forms can be obtained from the Sports Medicine Australia website at www.smawa.asn.au or by phoning 9285 8033.

Applications close at 5pm on Monday, August 10.
