ALBANY trainer Steve Wolfe will be looking to build on his fine start to the Great Southern racing season this weekend.
Last Sunday he scored a winning double at Mt Barker, and has a formidable team entered for Albany’s opening meeting on Sunday.
Watson’s Bay and Raunchy Business scored for Wolfe at Barker’s Michelle Parsons Pink Ladies’ Day.
Watson’s Bay justified his short-priced favouritism by bouncing straight to the front in the Murray Reid Memorial Handicap and running away from Timely Reign and Don’t Tell Toby to win by three lengths.
Rider David Chipman also brought up his double when Wolfe’s Raunchy Business swept home in the 1,200m Michelle Parsons Memorial Handicap to win by three-quarters of a length.
The Key Business mare is likely to be backed up for Sunday.
He has been nominated along with stablemates Canny Besain, Boy Canny Go, Commandeer, Briello, Shovely, Midnight Touch and My Equine Friend.
The strong Paul Hunter stable will also be well represented with nominations including Mt Barker winner Tiger Romano, Tidal Storm, Key To Target, She’s A Saint, Agent Thirteen, Carry The Banner, Dainty’s Fury, Laurie’s Dream and Brothersconnection.
Other winners last Sunday were Allen McNamara’s Cherpara and Shane Harcourt pair Ravinsky and Well Adjusted.
Albany’s seven-event program features the 1,100m Chris Wolfe Memorial Sprint.
The winning post signage raffle draw will be conducted for ticket-holders.
The first race is at 12.45pm, with gates open at 11am.
Albany Racing Club secretary Lonnie Hoy said on-course wagering will be revolutionised at the December 1 meeting which will see the introduction of new touch-screen tote machines.
