Grammar learns from Royals

21 May, 2009 10:18 AM
ANOTHER glorious sunny day greeted Albany netballers on Saturday with the teams fixtured to play outdoors.

In the B1 division Grammar 4 took on Royals 6.

Play was very even in the first quarter, allowing several Royals players to try out new court positions.

The next three quarters were dominated by Royals who came away with a convincing 48-11 win.

This Royals team are a very strong, talented group of youngsters and include five girls who will represent Albany in the under 13’s team at the upcoming Smarter than Smoking Netball Association carnival in Perth.

In the A2 division, Jokers 5 played Bullets 3 in a very tight game, where the height of Jokers’ goalkeeper Nicole Jennings made life very difficult for Bullet’s shooters.

Jokers had the edge through the centre court with some quick accurate play, but it was Mt Barker’s Bullets who came away with the 22-20 victory.

Narrikup 9 started strongly against the talented Royals 9 team in the D1 division - shooter Ruby Bigwood didn’t miss a goal in the first half.

During the second quarter, Narrikup’s centre court player, Taylah Orzel suffered an injury.

The team were re-arranged and became unsettled for the remainder of the game.

Although Royals’ Keely Fitzpatrick played a magnificent game in defence, Narrikup were the eventual winners 28-18.

In the A1 division, Narrikup 1 took an early lead against Jokers 1, who worked hard in the second quarter to pull the lead back.

Positional changes by the Narrikup coach saw Lisa Goodliffe take the court as goal shooter, which immediately turned the advantage back to Narrikup who went on to win the game 32-24.
