ANOTHER name will be added to local horse-racing history with the eighth running of the $22,000 Albany Weekender Golden Bracelet on Sunday.
A crack field of fillies and mares from all over the Great Southern will be saddled up for the 1,600 metre dash for cash.
Albany trainer Gerry Hughes will be looking to keep the jewellery in local hands.
Hughes is looking to win his first Albany Weekender Golden Bracelet with talented mare Movie World.
The Arazi five-year-old has an impeccable Albany record.
She has finished no worse than third in her nine Albany appearances, and won four along the way.
Her 15 career starts have now netted Movie World’s connections over $42,000 in stakes.
Her impressive form has come as just reward for the hard-working Hughes, who faced some challenges with the temperamental mare last year.
“She laid me out in the bush last year and laid out my track rider as well,” Hughes said.
“But she’s not trying on any of that stuff this year.”
Movie World is right at home at the Albany track, with Hughes well advanced in developing a stable complex across the road from Percy Spencer Racecourse.
But Hughes is aware there are strong contenders in the field.
Paul Hunter has taken charge of Adam Durrant’s former staying mare Phormium, who will carry top weight in the Bracelet.
The Xaar seven-year-old has amassed almost $150,000 in earnings and has drawn ideally in barrier two.
Victory here would give Hunter his third Golden Bracelet.
He won with Entrega in 2006 in a dead-heat with Chris Wolfe’s Ivory Fan.
Hunter tasted success again in 2008 with Speedies Dike.
His 2010 hopes are strengthened with the addition of Dark Humor in this year’s field.
Justin Parsons’ Our Calendar Girl will have another crack at Golden Bracelet glory, along with Brendan Corver’s Just Sue, Angela Smith’s Trimconnection, Des Attwell’s Glowing Vain, Peter Hansen’s Sister Golden Hair and Steve Wolfe’s Street Darling.
