ROUND 3 of the Great Southern Football League goes “country” this Sunday with both games being played outside Albany.
North Albany and Denmark-Walpole will both be searching for their first win of the season when they meet at McLean Park in Denmark.
The Kangas have lost close games against Railways and Royals and despite being on the road will start warm favourites against the Giants.
Several key players return to league ranks for the reigning premiers and their side will get stronger as the season wears on.
Denmark-Walpole had the bye before the Easter break and their form is hard to gauge as they tested Royals for a half in the first round fixture before being completely outplayed after the long break.
Youngsters Tyler Stone, Tom Morrisson and Brodie Hickey had a good start to the season in that game and will need to put in another solid performance if Denmark are to be a chance here.
The Giants have a poor record against North Albany and they will be relying on a whole-team performance and the support of a vocal home crowd to put themselves in with a chance to come away with the points.
At Frost Park in Mt Barker the home side faces a massive challenge when they take on Royals.
The Bulls were thumped by Railways in Albany to the tune of 118 points in Round 2 and will need a dramatic form reversal to cause a boilover here.
New Mt Barker coach Merv Neagle indicated there would be some changes to their line-up after the Easter break, including three members of the premiership side he coached in Darwin.
Royals haven’t played any outstanding football so far this season but have done enough to win both of their games.
They will more than likely use this clash against the young Bulls to fine tune for their top-of-the-table clash against Railways in Round 4.
The Tigers’ brains trust will sit back and watch the game in Mt Barker this week as they have the Round 3 bye.
