THE Bill Gibbings Memorial has been a well-contested annual event since its inception in 2002.
The event is named in honour of driver Bill Gibbings who died in 2001 at the age of 37.
Bill was born in Perth but spent his formative years in Albany and started racing at the tender age of 14 in a Hillman Imp.
Over the years he raced many different cars and was under the impression his sprint car was the ultimate driving experience.
However, he found that too easy to drive and after a while came back to sedans.
Bill was well known to fans in WA and served as the Albany Club’s president for many years.
He was always the man to beat at Attwell Park and had the honour of being the first Albany super sedan driver to claim a Claremont feature race.
The prestigious Bill Gibbings Memorial for Super Sedans will be held again this year, along with the all-important Australian Modified Production Championship and Street Stocks on Saturday night.NOS Sprints are the support act on Sunday.
