JOSHUA Winterton is a name not familiar to many tennis followers.
But give it a year of challenger events and more ITF tournaments and this name could be right up there with the Hewitts and Tomics.
Winterton, a Tennis Australia coach member, is the Albany Tennis Academy’s new senior coach.
Apart from sharing his experiences with many juniors across the Lower Great Southern, he will use his time in Albany to continue his own training for the ATP tour.
“I can’t wait for a new training environment, refocus my training and get the mental aspects of my game tougher for my next series of tournaments,” Winterton said..
“To have a Rebound Ace Tennis court and fully equipped gym at my disposal was a huge attraction to come to Albany.
“Albany Tennis Academy has a great name as a modern academy in WA tennis circles, so why not?”
Winterton was a WA Open Finalist in 2009 and a member of the WA under-19s team. He was third at the 2009 National Championships and gained entry into his first ITF events in late 2009.
While training, Winterton has been working at the Next Step Academy at UWA and Tennis Central in North Perth. He is in Albany for a nine-week stint and is looking forward to experiencing some country coaching and programs.
Albany Tennis Academy head coach David Kerr said Winterton brought professionalism as well as the latest coaching methods, drills and coaching practices to the academy.
