THE Emu Point Lawn Bowls Classic on January 5 and 6 was again a success, with bowlers from across the Lower Great Southern strutting their stuff.
Players from Narrogin, Corrigin, Dumbleyung, Darkan, Gnowangerup, Tambellup, Kulin, Esperance, Mt Barker, Frankland, Denmark, Busselton, Middleton Beach, Albany, Emu Point and seven composite teams took part in the two-day tournament.
Emu Point publicity officer Allan Thompson said the event, sponsored this year by Albany World of Cars, had being running annually since January 1991 and was as popular as ever.
“It attracts bowlers from across the region at a time when pennants are on holiday and tourists are at their peak,” he said.
“Yet, the club still works overtime to accommodate those seeking to roll up and join a game or perhaps hone their skills against top bowlers in the competitions.”
This year’s Classic was a tight finish with Busselton winning with 15 points, followed by Middleton Beach (14/49), third a composite team (14/47) and fourth was Esperance (14/43).
