Banned riders still impress

28 May, 2009 10:33 AM
DESPITE having no designated motocross track on which to hone their skills, Albany Motorcycle Club members are still notching up some impressive results.

At the second round of the Southwest Interclub competition series held recently in Collie, a number of riders performed well, finishing in the top 10 of their respective classes.

In the Open Class, senior rider Brodie Black took first place, while junior Jake Westlake came second in the 85cc-150cc Big Wheel

class.

Junior riders Matthew Adam and

Ryder Smith took second and third places in the 65cc

class, while Corben Weinert came second in the 50cc division 2.

Club members also recently travelled to Wagin to compete in the Wagin Pony Express Enduro, mainly for training purposes.

Matthew Adams and Corey Draper partnered up in the junior class and scored an impressive third placing, while the partnership of Brodie Black and Denmark’s Gordon Grazulis saw them take first place in the A-grade seniors.

Black, who rides Pro Grade, is currently rated seventh in the State and will be competing this weekend at the celebrated Manjimup 15000, an event which attracts top riders from around the world.

The Albany teenager acknowledges that lack of regular training could take the edge off his riding, but is still determined to be up there with the best.

“There are going to be some fast boys there,” Black said.

“But because we can’t train regularly in Albany anymore it will be that little bit harder for me.”

Black will be competing against 39 other riders in each race at the 15000, but judging by his current form he should be well placed.

“In the second round of the Interclub series in Bunbury, I had some good starts and got a fourth, a fifth and an eighth placing.

“A first at Manjimup would be nice.”
