14/08/2008 9:07:00 AM
AUSKICK footy player Mitchell Thornton has won the opportunity of a lifetime.

Thanks to the AFL and National Australia Bank, Mitchell will get the chance to play at the MCG during half-time of the Toyota AFL Grand Final.

As well as playing in front of the huge MCG crowd, Mitchell is one of 94 youngsters registered with NAB AFL Auskick selected to join Auskick ambassador Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPierdomenico in the Grand Final parade.

He will also visit the MCG’s National Sports Museum and participate in the Grand Final pre-match entertainment.

Twenty-two children will present premiership medals to players from the winning team.

DiPierdomenico said being part of one of the biggest sporting events in Australia was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the children and an experience they will never forget.

“Most supporters could only ever dream of what these 94 kids are about to embark on,” DiPierdomenico said.

“They will be flown to Melbourne to participate in the Grand Final parade, before taking to the MCG at half-time, a memory they will carry for the rest of their lives.”

The young Albany player will travel to Melbourne to participate in the activities on the Thursday of Grand Final week.

Every NAB AFL Auskick participant across Australia, aged between five and 12, was entered into the competition, which was drawn on Monday, August 4 at AFL House in Melbourne.

One winner from each of the 94 development regions across Australia was selected, making it one of the biggest kids’ competitions.

NAB AFL Auskick said the competition demonstrates it is truly a national program benefiting all participants regardless of their location.
