Weather delays waterfront roadworks

17/07/2008 9:35:00 AM
BAD weather has forced the postponement of work to realign Albany’s Princess Royal Drive.

The project, a part of the waterfront development, will resume in October.

LandCorp business manager Dale Page said Princess Royal Drive was currently too wet to be sealed.

“The road is being constructed under Main Roads WA specifications, which requires the pavement to have specific moisture content,” she said.

“Work cannot proceed until after winter when moisture levels drop.

“The detours that are currently in place will remain until October.

“Disruptions will be minimal, but I urge all members of the community to be aware of the detours and take extra care during winter.”

Ms Page said the Waterfront Stage One civil works were complete and tenders for Stage Two works were expected to be called this month.

The waterfront hotel site is scheduled for release to developers later this year.

Ms Page said this would deliver a hotel with restaurant, bar and conference facilities, along with short-stay serviced apartments.
