GREAT Southern TAFE’s Careers Expo proved a huge hit last Friday.
Everyone involved, from tutors to potential students and their parents, gave it a big thumbs up.
“It was chock-a-block full of kids,” Great Southern TAFE corporate service director Kevin Wilson said.
“It was just brilliant, every local school was represented.”
The event provided a range of activities and experiences, exhibitors, resources and information to further young peoples’ knowledge of career opportunities in the Great Southern.
Hands-on working experiences from laying floor tiles and pipe welding to making coffee and changing nappies were available for students to try out.
“Kids got the chance to see what they would like to do, whether it be a trade, or work with computers,” Mr Wilson said.
Music students from Denmark TAFE put their studies into practice and performed in the cafeteria, entertaining the crowd throughout the day.
Students also got to meet Callan Taylor, a detemined young entrepreneur, graphic designer and champion cyclist from South Australia.
Callan ran inspirational interactive career planning sessions, where he shared tips and strategies that helped propel him to success by the time he was 21-years-old.
“The place was buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm,” Mr Wilson said.
