Swine flu tests

11 Jun, 2009 09:15 AM
A MOTHER, her child and two other children at Spencer Park Primary School are suspected of having H1N1 swine flu.

A positive result could close the school.

On Wednesday morning, neither the school, Education Department or the WA Health Department could confirm any children were affected.

However, the school was operating normally.

The mother confirmed to the Weekender she had been tested after experiencing severe flu symptoms following the visit of a step-daughter from Melbourne.

It is believed the step-daughter was on the same plane as a Bunbury man who tested positive.

The step-daughter had been cleared by health authorities without being tested and returned to Melbourne.

The mother said she had been tested after being ill for five days and was awaiting the results, along with her other daughter. A son did not have any flu-like symptoms.

“I’ve had the flu before and all I know is it’s the worst flu I’ve ever had,” she said.

“I’ve had a fever, sore throat and nausea and had trouble breathing. But hopefully, it’s just the normal flu.”

The woman said she would know on Friday whether she was positive for swine flu.
