LARGE numbers of surfers and bodyboarders are predicted to turn out for the annual Albany Bodyboarders Wavefest on the weekend of May 17 and 18.
Now in its 11th year, the popular event attracts surfers from all age groups, with competition categories ranging from under 12s to over 50s.
It’s hoped that the event will be held at Middleton Beach, but if weather conditions are not suitable, the competition will be relocated on the day.
In 2006, the event was moved to Ocean Beach in Denmark due to the windy conditions in Albany.
With a barbecue on the beach, heaps of prizes to be won and entertainment from Albany band Mischief at a party at The Stirling Club on the Saturday night, the weekend looks like being a great event.
“There will be the opportunity to win a surfboard, but you’ll need to be at the party on the Saturday to be in with a chance,” contest organiser Jason Oostdam said.
“Everyone’s welcome, you don’t need to be a member to come along,” he said.
Entry and nomination forms are available from the Albany Surf Shop and the Surf Shop Denmark.
Closing date for entries is 5pm, Wednesday, May 14.
