Stealing charges defended

21 May, 2009 10:02 AM
A 42-year-old woman accused of stealing more than $100,000 from Albany community groups made her first appearance in Albany District Court last Thursday.

Anita Louise Brady, who has already made several appearances in Albany Magistrates Court since 2007, was ordered by Judge Mary Yeats to reappear in Albany District Court on July 23 so a trial date could be set.

Brady appeared on multiple charges of stealing after it was alleged she stole about $78,000 from the North Albany Senior High School Parents and Citizens Association.

It is also alleged she stole from the Mt Lockyer Primary School Parents and Citizens Association, the Albany Junior Soccer Association and the Albany Softball Association between 2003 and 2007.

More charges could follow as the prosecutors said they were not in a position to serve an indictment on Brady because they were still looking at the huge amount of evidence.

Police have currently only charged Brady with offences committed in 2003 but there could be further charges pending.

The State asked for a three-month adjournment to look into the unknown quantity of evidence relating to the other years of her alleged offending

The woman’s lawyer Bruno Illari said the defence was working to resolve the issue without a trial and there could be possible changes in her plea.
