AFTER helping the community during emergencies, Albany’s SES is now looking for reciprocal help and donations to update equipment.
The organisation is trying to raise money to buy a quad bike, a vital piece of equipment needed for the south coast terrain that is not covered by the State Government’s emergency services levy.
From their own efforts, the SES has raised $2,000 but it still needs another $10,000.
SES event coordinator Jack Hamilton said the terrain in Albany made the bike an essential tool in rescue situations.
“It is important to us because it will help us get into inaccessible areas,” he said.
“If we have to go into the bush or on a beach the bike will allow us to get in there quickly which is important to save lives.
“If we rescue someone from an inaccessible area we can get them out in minutes instead of hours and get them to an ambulance.”
The SES kick-started its fundraising efforts at the Albany races last weekend.
