LIBERAL candidate for Albany, Andrew Partington, has announced a Liberal Government would demolish Yakamia Primary School.
The school would be replaced on a new site, possibly closer to Chester Pass Road, to cater for the growing Yakamia area.
Mr Partington said a Liberal Government would spend about $20 million on rebuilding the school in its first term.
He made the announcement during a low-key forum addressed by candidates in the 2008 State Election organised by the Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday night.
About 100 people attended the forum in Albany Town Hall to hear the six candidates explain their reasons for running and their politicial ideas.
Mr Partington said Yakamia PS needed to go because it did not cater for modern schooling needs and was poorly located resulting in potentially dangerous traffic restictions.
“Some problems have been remedied, but how long do you keep fixing a building that needs replacing,” he said.
Albany Labor MLA Peter Watson said the school was about to undergo a $3.8m upgrade.
He said toilet facilities which created massive problems had been fixed and the school needed to remain in the area to cater for demand.
