CONCERNS that a mother, her daughter and two other children attending Spencer Park Primary School might have contracted H1N1 swine flu were dismissed on Monday when results came back negative.
The mother was extremely ill with flu symptoms and was concerned she might have spread it through her child to the school.
However, her worries proved baseless.
This week, the Department of Health reassured people with mild flu-like symptoms that they may not need to go to the GP or hospital and be tested for human swine flu.
Chief Health Officer Dr Tarun Weeramanthri said that with the onset of the regular flu season it was important to remind the public to only seek medical attention if required.
“People with mild illness without any risk factors do not necessarily need to go and see a doctor, they can stay at home and rest until they are better,” he said.
“Most people will make an uncomplicated recovery by themselves within a few days.”
Dr Weeramanthri said experience to date suggested human swine influenza was a mild illness in most people although moderate or severe illness may occur.
