POLICE in the Great Southern are patting themselves on the back after rating highly in terms of community satisfaction.
Ours is one of the highest-rating districts in terms of satisfaction with its police force in a random sample of people across the State.
Great Southern Police Superintendent Dene Leekong said the region’s police traditionally rated well but this year they had done better than usual.
“We rated better than the State result in numerous categories,” he said.
“These included things like high satisfaction with most recent contact, and solving problems in the neighbourhood by dealing with housebreakings, motor vehicle theft and speeding cars.”
Supt Leekong said through Great Southern police operations priority, prolific offenders were being targeted and as a result, burglaries and violence-related crimes had dropped across the district.
“If an offender is charged with a burglary, for example, they get put onto a strict curfew bail,” Supt Leekong said.
“We check the curfew and when we find they have breached that bail we arrest them. This has had a significant effect on burglaries.”
