THE climate change debate is being brought to Albany this Friday when a leg of the National Climate Torch Relay is run through the streets.
Organised by GetUp, an independent movement to build a progressive Australia, the Climate Torch is being seen as a symbol of the national determination to avert climate change. The torch features solar power, a wind turbine, people power, and a lemon battery.
The run, comprising members of the local community, starts at 8.45am at the Albany Wind Farm and ends at 10am at Albany Town Hall.
The Torch Relay is touring Australia on its way to Parliament House, Canberra, to be presented to the government.
Along the route local communities are hosting legs of the relay with calls for leaders to halve Australia’s greenhouse pollution by 2020.
