02 Jul, 2009 08:53 AM
ALBANY is experiencing one of its wettest spells in years, with June’s rainfall figures well above the long-term monthly average.

Great Southern farmers are smiling, with widespread rain away from the coast.

At the end of the month on Tuesday morning, Albany’s monthly total of 233.4mm exceeded the average of 132.2mm. Only two days out of the 30 days in the month were rain-free.

The total for the year was 411mm, more than the long-term average of 405.4mm but below the same time last year when 414.9mm was recorded on 90 days.

The heaviest fall was overnight on June 4 when 31.2mm was recorded, slightly more than the next day (31.2mm). On the same day, Albany Airport received 36.6mm and Mt Barker 31.6mm.

Southern coastal figures for seven days to June 30 were: Borden 35, Bremer Bay 12, Cheyne Beach 16, Denbarker 60, Denmark 60, Frankland 30, Frenchman Bay 9, Gairdner 10, Gnowangerup 44, Jerramungup 19, Kendenup 40, Manypeaks 35, Mettler 20, Mt Barker 45, Narrikup West 42, Ongerup 27, Porongurup 18, Ravensthorpe 5, Rocky Gully South 37.
