A RECORD was established at the Albany Port when its four berths were filled at the same time last week.
Boosting the Albany Port Authority’s normally busy month handling grain shipments was a woodchip ship and the stopover of two cruise ships, Superstar Gemini and Funchal on Friday.
Another seven ships are expected this month including the cruise ship Amadea which is picking up passengers in a quick one-hour turnaround on January 23.
The port is already preparing for a visit by the Queen Elizabeth II on March 4 as part of its final world voyage.
It will arrive at 8am and leave at 6pm for Fremantle and its last port of call at Dubai where it will become a floating hotel.
Port CEO Brad Williamson said the port’s pilot had undertaken specialised training in Hobart on a simulator to bring the QEII into a berth.
