New site on job

LOCAL business leaders were up early on Friday to attend the breakfast launch of www.albanyjobs.com.au

The recruitment portal has been developed to help local industry find prospective employees and attract workers and their families outside the region.

Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Graham Harvey, said the website was born out of a need to assist the chronic labour shortage in the Great Southern.

“Until now, if someone wanted to move to Albany, where would they go to find out about employment opportunities in the region?” Mr Harvey said.

“If they were living in Perth it would be very difficult to access a copy of the local newspaper,” he said.

“So we decided to create a website that all employers in the region, including recruitment companies, could place their vacancies.”

The site, which also incudes information about the region, is a joint initiative between Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Great Southern Development Commission and the City of Albany.

Although the ACCI acknowledges the Internet is the first port of call for many seeking work, Mr Harvey is keen to point out that the Chamber has not joined the recruitment industry.

“It is a tool in the armoury, not a panacea,” he said.
