GREAT Southern Police have praised motorists for being well behaved over the long weekend with no major incidents or fatalities reported.
But regional Police traffic coordinator Sergeant Nigel Fiander said a small proportion of drivers were still prepared to take risks.
“For example, overtaking on solid white lines, but they need to know these risks are not worth taking,” he said. “If you take risks the chances of you having a serious crash increase.”
Sgt Fiander said he drove through the district over the weekend and was very happy with what he saw on the roads.
“Over the weekend we found very few people were speeding,” he said.
“The double demerit points were having a positive impact on driving behaviour from an enforcement standpoint.”
He said the only major incident over the weekend involved a 35-year-old Albany male who had to be cut from his vehicle which crashed into the new Scott Park Homes building on North Road.
St John Ambulance took the man to Albany Hospital with minor injuries.
