Heritage Council appointment

03 Sep, 2009 09:07 AM
ALBANY architect David Heaver has been appointed to the Heritage Council of Western Australia.

Heritage Council of Western Australia Chairperson Marion Fulker said Mr Heaver would provide an important regional voice to the council.

“David’s dedication to the heritage was recognised in 1996 when he won the Heritage Council’s award for individual contribution to heritage in WA,” Mrs Fulker said.

“David has broad experience working on large and complex sites with private individuals, local authorities and State and Commonwealth government bodies.”

Mr Heaver is a member of various Albany committees for cultural planning and development, urban planning and community housing.

Mrs Fulker said Mr Heaver’s work had encompassed the preparation of many conservation plans for heritage sites in Albany and the Great Southern region.

These included Old Farm Strawberry Hill, Vancouver Arts Centre, Albany Court House Precinct and Albany Town Hall.

His experience in conservation works is also widespread, including projects at Wagin Town Hall, The Rocks, Camp Quaranup, The Forts, Breaksea Island houses and the Amity Precinct.

“David’s broad experience and regional background will be an added strength to the Heritage Council, which comprises representatives from community, heritage, local government and owners’ interest groups,” Mrs Fulker said.

The Heritage Council of Western Australia is the State Government’s advisory and statutory body on heritage. The Council comprises nine members and oversees the operations of the Office of the Heritage Council of WA.
