ALBANY music lovers can expect another weekend of quality entertainment during 2009 HarbourSound from April 24 to 26.
The line-up of acts includes several international performers who have extended their Australia-wide tours for the concert weekend in the Albany Town Hall.
Four concerts will be linked with workshops by the performers who will pass on their skills to locals wanting to learn more.
Presented by Creative Albany, HarbourSound has grabbed some of the best artists who will perform at the Fairbridge Festival of Folk this weekend from April 17 to 19.
HarbourSound artistic director Rod Vervest said the town hall was the ideal intimate venue to enjoy the performers.
“The festival will demonstrate the wide and varied use of the town hall in its present form,” he said.
Included in the line-up is acoustic guitarist Pierre Bensusan from France.
Vervest said no other guitarist shared Bensusan’s sophistication, accessibility and downright joy.
“He has received sensational reviews wherever he has gone,” he said.
“Then there are the Undesirables from Canada.
“Imagine Tom Waits and Charles Dickens sharing ale-drenched stories and you might get close.”
Mick Conway, whose brother Jim appeared on the Great Southern Perth International Arts Festival program, will perform together with Vervest and his mates, Fremantle musicians Dave Clark and Peter Grayling, who are appearing as Clarke’s Gray Vest.
Conway will give a special matinee concert on Saturday for kids “of all ages.”
Acclaimed Irish violinist PJ Sweeney is also booked to not only perform but take part in a fiddling workshop on Sunday.
WAIFS’ drummer David Ross Macdonald will be armed only with a voice and guitar for his concert.
“Last year we had good audience numbers, so anyone wanting to attend should book at the Town Hall Box Office as soon as possible,” Vervest said.
