REGIONAL families are expected to benefit after the Great Southern GP Network (GSGPN) secured Australian Government funding to develop its work through the Communities for Children Initiative.
The $2.75 million is for the locally-based network to better target vulnerable children and families in the region through a more flexible program delivery service.
The age range will be expanded from the five year old limit to take in six to 12 year olds and the program will be developed in line with the government’s new thinking around family support.
“We’re very grateful to have the opportunity to expand on the work we’ve been doing so well,” GSGPN CEO Suzanne Leavesley said.
“We are looking forward to developing our services to help children as they go through the primary school years as well as target our services more directly towards vulnerable families.”
The network will continue its partnerships with the YMCA and Wanslea Family Services developed over the last two years in delivering this new round of Communities for Children.
“The GP Network is well placed to play a leadership role in this program, with around 87 per cent of families visiting their GP at least once a year,” Ms Leavesley said.
“We’re excited about the possibilities this new funding offers.”
The funding will run through to June 2012.
