THE Albany City Wind Ensemble (ACWE) is promising a night of musical mayhem when it performs its first major concert of the year at the end of this month.
ACWE conductor Sue Findlay said the performance will feature a wide range of musical genres.
“We will be performing everything from big band hits to movie themes as well as some pieces of classical music,” Mrs Findlay said.
“It won’t be totally instrumental – as well as having soloists perform with us, there will be spots for vocalists.
“We’re also promising a few twists, turns and surprises.”
The ACWE is currently made up of 36 players and covers a wide age group - its youngest member is 12-years-old and its oldest is over 80.
Mrs Finday, who only began conducting the ensemble this year, said this diversity was one of the group’s major strengths.
“The ensemble’s musicians range from a former principal clarinet player with the WA Symphony Orchestra, to musicians who have returned to playing after retiring from work. The ensemble also provides a great opportunity for our school-student members to broaden their musical horizons.
“This range of people and their desire to help one another out is what I find really special about the group.
“It really is a great community to be part of.”
Musical Mayhem will be performed at Albany Town Hall on Saturday, July 25.
