AN Albany man who caused a disturbance after he had been drinking too much admitted last week what he did was wrong.
Magistrate Jeremy Packington asked Matthew James Wood (23) if “he would like some idiot banging on his door late at night”, after Wood had pleaded guilty to common assault and obstructing a police officer.
The court heard that at 11.05pm on June 19, Wood began kicking the front door of a Collingwood Heights home after the over-consumption of alcohol had caused him to lose his way home.
After the property owner asked Wood what he wanted, a struggle ensued and the man was assaulted. The assault victim and a witness then held Wood down on the property’s front lawn until police arrived.
Police prosecutor Sgt Ron Watkins said the incident was a case of “someone boxing above their weight” and recommended Wood receive a fine.
Magistrate Packington agreed and fined Wood $750 for common assault, $500 of which will be paid to the victim, and $200 for obstructing a police officer.
Parole broken
A KOJONUP man who broke his parole conditions will face sentencing next week.
Darryl Timothy Monaghan (34), also known as Jamie Swan, had served eight-and-a-half years of a 10-and-a-half year sentence when he assaulted his partner.
Monaghan pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman at North Fremantle and threatening her at Perth’s City Beach on May 29, when he appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Monaghan will be sentenced on July 31.
