A PROJECT linking senior members of the community with school students has taken on a new direction at Albany Senior High School.
Dinosaurs in Schools has moved on from its original aim of providing mentoring for young people to liaising closer with teachers and their objectives.
This came to fruition last week when a Year Eight class made audiovisual presentations to “dinosaurs”, using computer equipment for the first time.
Dinosaur project coordinator Dr Ray George said the work done voluntarily by the seniors had taken on a new meaning.
“Our sessions are turning into a real use of our past experiences,” he said.
“We’ve got a good focus now on why we’re here and what to achieve.”
Students interviewed the seniors to discover their past then developed small computer presentations which they showed last week.
Dinosaurs in Schools developed while volunteers were being recruited for a volunteer program.
Dr George said it was a great opportunity to harness the skills of many senior people in Albany and help young people, with the satisfaction of contributing to the community.
